New to the board

My how the message board has changed - I used to post back in the dim and distant past but somehow I lost touch. Too much going on I guess.

In the interim I have become a father and started to build guitars for pleasure and maybe to earn some money in the future. I have kept whistling away on my Hoover and Burke and my partner’s Copeland has seen some illicit use as well.

I am awaiting the arrival of my first low D - a Cillian O’Briain and I’ll report back how I fare.

I must say it is nice to be back here. This truly is an amazing resource.

Welcome back, Gerry.
I play Burkes and have Hoovers on order. Please tell me what you think of your Hoover.
Cheers,

I really like my Hoover. I think mine is a traditional bore and it’s in D. It plays really well and sounds really sweet. It requires almost no air to play through two octaves. The low D note is a challenge until you get used to it - if you blow too hard you will miss the note. It is pretty quiet so I would use it for practicing only. It is great for practicing fast stuff. The fipple is really cool too - a sort of granite shade of Corian.

There are no negatives - but it is a specific tool for a specific job. I don’t know if Mack is making louder whistles these days and if these are what you’ve ordered.
