I don’t understand why it’s such a shock for some people to discover that irish session musicians are no different than jazz or blues jam musicians: if you’re polite and can play your way out of a paper bag, they will welcome you in most circumstances as someone bringing a contribution to the evening’s fun. If you can’t, well, you can still have a great time as an onlooker without ruining anybody else’s good time. It’s best to do your practicing at home.
