New Syn set!

Tonight my church presented me with a Syn set (Eb, D, C Bb) as a going-away gift. We leave for a new call the first week of June. They’re really nice. One question: should I use anything to lubricate the tune slide on the mouthpiece? It feels like there’s some stuff on there now, but if it gets dried out I’m wondering what I should use in the future. Any suggestions?

Peace.

No! Don’t do it! Just joking.

and congrats on the whistles.

I’ve had my set several years and never had to lubricate them. I usually take them apart when not playing. Yes, they’re tight and I probably should, but no problems yet.

Hope you enjoy your set as much as I’ve enjoyed mine.

If I recall correctly, the instructions that came with my Syn set said to use vaseline. It doesn’t take very much, and it lasts a long time.

Vaso’s the go! Welcome to the Syn family!

Thanks, all. As I said for now they’re in good shape, but I’ll remember to use vaseline if the need arises. I can’t wait to have a chance to spend some serious time with them. Right now we’re in the throes of moving, so it’s a little tricky.

Peace.

Congrats on the new set of Syn’s (and your move).

I keep my Syn set by the computer for regular use. I never play anything but the D, but I really like its sound.

i have never had to lube mine yet either.

i love my syn set!

I have a D/C/Bb set, do you know where to get A and Eb body?

Ellen, the best person to answer that would be Erle Barlett, the maker of Syn whistles, aka “syn whistles” here on the Chiff. Send him a PM or an email. He’s a great fellow to deal with personally.
