Tonight my church presented me with a Syn set (Eb, D, C Bb) as a going-away gift. We leave for a new call the first week of June. They’re really nice. One question: should I use anything to lubricate the tune slide on the mouthpiece? It feels like there’s some stuff on there now, but if it gets dried out I’m wondering what I should use in the future. Any suggestions?
I’ve had my set several years and never had to lubricate them. I usually take them apart when not playing. Yes, they’re tight and I probably should, but no problems yet.
Hope you enjoy your set as much as I’ve enjoyed mine.
Thanks, all. As I said for now they’re in good shape, but I’ll remember to use vaseline if the need arises. I can’t wait to have a chance to spend some serious time with them. Right now we’re in the throes of moving, so it’s a little tricky.
Ellen, the best person to answer that would be Erle Barlett, the maker of Syn whistles, aka “syn whistles” here on the Chiff. Send him a PM or an email. He’s a great fellow to deal with personally.
