I am a new player(1 year) with a Robert’s
half set, living in Michigan. I would like to get the advice of an experienced player
regarding chanter adjustment and playing
technique. Does anyone know an experienced
player in the Michigan, Indiana, Ohio area?
Welcome to C&F on the feast of St Brigid, traditionally regarded as the first day of spring. LOL as appropriate - here in Beautiful Uptown Brussels we’ve had the first real snow of the winter.
If you know how, I suggest you edit the subject line in your message to indicate what area you live in, that’s more likely to draw attention from the most useful sources.
Good luck, on the assumption that it’s already too late to change your mind about this pîping thing!
Dear Avalk,
If the Ferndale/Detroit area is within convenient travelling distance for you, there are lessons available at the White Heather Club every week. Try this link:

Terrence McKinney teaches there, and is about as expert and experienced a piper as you’ll find in this area. If that’s to far a drive, Tyler Duncan is a talented young piper living in the Ann Arbor area. Either of these two may be able to recommend someone closer to your area.
good luck
Marc

I’m in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Occasionally, I get to sessions in South Bend, IN or Bowling Green, Ohio. Where do you live?
Avalk:
I’d have to second Marcpipes’ recommendation of the White Heather Club. Was just there Thursday and we had 5 pipers show up. A few weeks ago there were 7. All very helpful.
Good luck with the piping!
John
Check Seth Gallagher’s Piping contacts list on his website, http://www.uilleann.com.
There are one or two pipers from Indiana that I’ve met over the years. You won’t go wrong if you try to arrange a meeting with Terence McKinney.
It’s probably a very good idea for you to go to the St. Louis tionol this year.
http://www.tionol.org, I think.
