Can a whistle fix itself? I had gotten a Walton’s mellow D over a year ago, after borrowing my son’s --he wanted it back, without Mom-germs. I hated the new one, boiled it, tweaked it, still hated it, put it away, played my Dixons. Then, lo and behold, I took the Waltons out the other day, played Planxty Irwin a few times while I was making dinner - and it’s great! No squeaks, clear as a bell - how could this happen??? Are there whistle gnomes or brownies who clean up trashy instruments and leave them for their owners to find??? Has this ever happened to anyone out there??? The whistle has now taken up residence over the kitchen sink, within easy reach. Happy Thanksgiving to all ![]()

It isn’t the whistle. What you described has happened to many of us. In the last year, YOU have improved (phrasing, breath control, whatever). Now you pick up the old whistle and it sounds better because YOU played it better.
