New keyed D whistles, not "tin"... nor "penny

Ralph Sweet let me know a new Kilhoury is officially back in Sweet’s catalog, but with the new, conical bore.

Check it out: http://www.sweetheartflute.com/killoury.html

Note from Pennytindranath-baba-san, guru of the True Holey Six and Half-Holey Twelve:"These are kosher–as testified by the Church label (S for Six) on the heads.
They ain’t recorders, for their heads are square, not roccoco, and only true pennywhistles bear such labels.
The booster, 4WD and afterburner levers are
normally closed so it runs as six if you don’t drive into taxi dentals"

PS: I’ll have to make a whistle sampling alone all these small labels, just as those travel suitcases with the 50’s tourists

They have a pregnant look to them. Should the buyer expect a litter of ocarinas at some point after the transaction?

Firstly, one would have to assume that the sire was an ocarina for anything like that to occur…and even then the offspring would be whistlinas.

I think they more resemble a snake after a large meal.

Come now folks, don’t get keyed off at this site.

Tinwhistles are evolving, they must continue so or days of Recorders will take over.

The fellowship of the whistle (whistlemakers) must not be broken. Hey, we could have a new story - “The Lord of the Keys”.

Or from the Matrix, “It is Inevitable”.

Seriously though, Ralphs work looks great. I curious if he casts keys or forges them into shape.

Thay are actually selling a $425 whistle with a sticker label on it?!?

I hadn’t noticed the sticker for drooling over the lovely keywork!

A $400+ whistle is way out of reach right now, but it looks like lovely work.

Just maybe, the price doesn’t reflect the cost of the label, but of a conical bore and three keys?

Now, if you’re scandalized by the label, just think Chanel also puts labels on $10,000 dresses. I heard most customers don’t complain, and some don’t even snip off the collar label–just the price tag.

Also, if I’ve seen colleagues insisting on leaving the old “Passed” (now… passé) sticker on their Japanese cameras, this didn’t stop me from buying the same.

Just as I won’t boycott a car brand just because they keep selling ashtrays as standard equipment. If you don’t like ashtrays in a car, just junk 'em, and–voilà–it’s fixed. Ain’t it a neat tweak? Don’t thank me…

Same for high-end cigars: never leave the label on. Not that I assume you personnally indulge in that poison presently–I even hope not…

For the ultimate snob vehicle, get a Rolls-Royce Phantom V and remove the winged whistle from the front boiler. On a more modest scale, you can do the same with a Mercedes-Benz, removing the pedestrian gunsight. This way you know you drive a car, not a fancy teapot…

For the ultimate snob whistle, take a sterling Copeland, scrape it good with coarse sandpaper, then spray it with metal-gray duct primer paint to pretend it’s a tweaked Shaw. For icing on the cake and ultimate finesse: stick a “Jerry Freeman tweaked” sticker with Ralph’s profile.

Right: can’t you tell a Guinness belly from a pregnant one?

With you Daniel.

Especially when the picture explains clearly one has choices!

hmmm…my Overton Modal D/C seems to fill the need for Fnat, G# and Eb…no need for keys…yet..

if only those things were low D’s.
