Hi I’m Christine, new here. I play 2nd violin in a local community orchestra, and have started looking at playing whistles for fun.
I’m a leftie, so I’m always interested in left handed instruments!
I live near Albuquerque, New Mexico (not exactly a whistle stop).
Any advice for someone who has to learn whistle sans instructor is appreciated!
You may wish to play in right-handed position,
with the left hand on top. This works fine even if
you’re left handed and it may save you some grief
later if you switch to Irish flute, as many of us do.
It is hard to get a left-handed Irish flute.
That’s all left v. rt-handed comes to on whistle,
which hand is on top. Advise left hand, which
is the ‘righty’ position.
Probably there are Irish sessions in Albuquerque
and maybe even teachers. However the Grey
Larsen book (oh dear, can’t remember the name; help
someone) is very good, it comes with CDs
and it’s especially helpful if you already play
another instrument. You can get it by checking

Like I stated on another post, buying 101 whistle tunes from Walton is a good idea, many tunes from novice until advanced and the fingering charts are under the bars. All the best,
