I’m a 21 year old girl from Berlin, Germany, and have been lurking around here for a while now. Thought I’d say hi
I first started playing the tin whistle at 16, teaching myself with the book by Bill Ochs that came with my Clarke whistle. (Also had previous experience in playing the recorder). I never started with learning the ornamentations though, so for 5 years I’ve just been tooting around without all that.. I guess that’s probably a bit strange. When playing I use some cuts and slurring that just came to me naturally, but apart from that.. I’m still figuring everything out now.
I never used to play regularly but only picked up the whistle now and then, whenever I came to think of it.. but for the past few months I’ve been totally in ‘the fever’ again. So I think it’s time to actually sit down and learn this stuff now.. rolls and crans and everything - I’m coming!!

BTW, just between you and me, buying new whistles won’t make your rolls any better so if somebody puts that idear in your read don’t listen to em. And watch out for WHOA, it’s expensive and farely unnecisary. Hehe, don’t mind me…

Yeah! How do you pick names by accident?? Well I’ve got this thing about ravens/crows.. inherited spiritual connection. and come to that I’m pagan too. Asatru though, not quite celtic. And I guess I am quite crazy, people keep telling me that. But that’s a good sign, isn’t it? Who wants to be normal (whatever that is)?!

Glad you have come out of the shadows… (note - I don’t actually speak German, but I have cousins-in-law there and have picked up a few words tha come in handy… LOL … some of them even printable here!)
BTW - IMHO, “normal” is actually a four letter word (it only appears to have 5), and should never be taken seriously. “Weird”, on the other hand, is one Ithat is almost inarguably complimentary.
The only normal person I know is me. Some folk here almost sound sane, but I am suspicious. I’ll bet if I knew longer and in person rather than virtually, they would become crazier and crazier.
However, I think we all have more fun than the “sane” folks.
Next you will be feeling that funny urge to start looking around for those uillean bagpipes… Then all hope is lost.

Cram as many bottom Ds into your cranns as you can and keep rhythm. Stay at 3 bottom Ds in the crann for a long time until it is perfect, then jam more cuts in. If you get can 5 or more bottom D’s sounding for it in rhythm, you are getting real good. The bottom D should pop out a little louder and almost break the octave.
