I just tried the new 250th year anniversary Guinness Stout.
That is some great stuff. It has the consistency of the extra stout, but the taste of the draught. It is like a less creamier Guinness; it has more of a crisp taste. If you are a fan of Guinness, then you will love this stuff.
Cheers. ![]()
I’m on call this week but if I can find it next week I’ll give it a try.
The only bad thing about it, is that it is limited edition. I am going to have to stock up on it.

I’m sorry, I must in good conscience disobey your command.
Others have liked it, though. I mean, it wasn’t bad. But doing a side-by-side taste test, gimme creaminess and nitrogen any day.
You are right about there is nothing like Guinness original, but I really like this regular stout.
Yeah, it does have much to recommend it. I thought the taste was bright and clean, and the mouth feel was sparkly because of the CO2. For me, a lighter-seeming product overall. It was a hard choice for me, but to my mind the original and the anniversary reserve are different animals entirely. Sorta like flat pitch and concert pitch pipes: both are uilleann pipes, but they are, really, fundamentally different instuments. And I’m a flat-set kinda guy. ![]()
ooooo…
I like that comparison.

Beer snob thread!
My beer is better than yours!
Seriously though, you just can’t beat this:

or this:

As far as judging stouts against stouts, you really can’t go wrong with just about any russian imperial stouts, but I’d vouch for these:

Once you develop a taste for really good beer it’s hard to go back. Last bottle of Guinness (UK imported) I opened I used to make guinness battered mushrooms.
You’re right. My favorite, Belgian style, from Unibroue in Québec:

Oooo, I like the company name.
Unibroue is delicious. I always forget about it. La Fin du Monde is good (bon), but my favourite is probably

. The worst part is that you can only get three of the kinds in Ontario.

,

(I think), and

. Maudite is good, luckily.
For all the rest of the really good Unibroue beers I have to go to Detroit and sneak 'em back in.

(great warmed!)

Inspired by Low-In-Brow, perhaps?

mmphhh…this needs some serious investigation.
haven’t seen the stuff around here and we are closer to the original place than you are …
I am a fan of the draught so I am not sure whether I am gonna like the spec ed.
that said…my other favorites are the belgians…westmalle triple does a good job anytime…
