New goodies have arrived

and the goodies are:

Chieftain Low D (OS)
Harper D engraved

gotta love that harper - it’s practicly weightless, has a very sweet bright tone, huge holes which I like - the only 2 downsides maybe is the distance between holes - it’s too small… Sometimes after playing a low whistle, the fingers on the Harper start to collide. And also it gets pretty slippery when I’m sweaty, the metal gets hot easily.
I’m gonna show off that engraving though, that’s for sure

The Chieftain was quite noisy when I first started playing it, but with time it gets a warmer sound instead of noisy. To reach the last notes on this whistle I need some very good blow, or else it dies on me. The bore is also huge, and my Susato Low D can slide into the Chieftain without a prob. It’s a pretty heavy whistle - but seems like even with my sweaty hands it never slips out - unlike the PVC Susato where I can’t play without the thumbrest.

That’s my first impression on these, I wonder what you folks think…
I’m going to attach some pics soon

Hi Trip, you call your Chiefatin OR and we don’t have that as a designation. This could confuse people who may think that there is another Chieftain range. So,we call the older whistles OS (old style-pre_2003) and whistles from 2003 onwards we call NR (new range-post _2003)
I hope you don’t think I’m being pedantic but people could get confused.
The whistle on the left is an NR.
The whistle on the right is an OS.
Which one do you have?
Please note that all NR Chieftains have the mouthpiece slightly rounded now, this is for comfort.

Sorry Phil,

I didn’t really know how it’s called, so I naturally called it Old Range - I of course meant whatever you mean - the Old Style.

I’ll edit my message for the occuracy sake.

nice pics

cheers,
Philip.

and here are some pics…

That’s the whole lot:

Hey Trip-nice pics. I haven’t figured out yet how to insert them in a posting. Probably something simple but I have a special ability to make anything more difficult than it is! Can you let me in on it?
Also I have a D/C Harper set that I’m going to have to part with. :sniffle: Beautiful whistles and sound great - I haven’t experienced any of the problems you mentioned. The reason they will have to go is they were bought in the IBF (Initial Buying Frenzy) phase of my case of WhOA along with quite a few other great Cs & Ds and I now need money to fill in other holes in my collection. I will have to console myself with Burke, Syn, Black Diamond, Hoover white top, Susato, Sweetone,…

to insert an image, just put a link to your picture between these →

and don’t let that Harper go roaming so fast..

Holy cow!

Nice whistles.

But that Tartan… WOW! I had to turn down the brightness and contrast on my monitor.

One of the fellows that occaisionally comes to our sessions has a pair of Harpers - Beautiful to look at! I’ve yet to be able to get a good listen, but I did get a good look! Pretty!
