Hi everybody !
I’m a french piper. I play GHB since 9 years and I learn UP since average 2 years. My pipe is an ARHPA practice set.
I would like upgrade on 1/2 set.
Is anybody knows the Mark Donohoe Set ?
Thanks for your advices and sorry for my english !
France - go to Saint Chartier if you can as there will be a good choice of makers who would love to sell you something - Chris Bayley, Brendan Ring, Tanguy Allain, Dominique Bouge, Hevia
Here are some photo’s of a Donohoe half set and keyed chanter and they sound better than they look and thats saying something
RORY[/img]
I also think he is one of the best value makers around as yuo get the half set for 2200 euro’s with case and all chanters come with the extra block for the reversed fnat key
I like the fact that what you see is what you get .The photo of the half set is the photo he e-mails any inquiring customers and that’s his standard.set The stop key , wooden chanter head and ivory bits are not extra’s as with some makers.
I tried my basic French on this and got…
“At Charties, there is nothing bad like that. Its a small Woodstock. Bring your toy so I recognise you.”
then
“Yes PJ, but when I play pipes I am different!”
It just doesn’t sound as funny in English does it? Sorry I mean… Il ne semble pas drôle en anglais.
Ah well - maybe my translation sounds hilarious to the French? Its like that Rakugo in Japan, seems only the Japanese get it!
Right gotta go, my French lesson has ended, Music is next…
There’s a competition on CBC radio every week called lost in translation. They take the words of a song in English, translate it into another lanugage using Google and then translate it back to English. The results are usually completely unrecognisable. Very funny though.
It’s a bit like Steve Martin says “It’s like those French have a different word for everything”.
