I’m just taking a time out to thank those of you who offered advice on my purchasing a flute. Well my new M+E Rundall and Rose arrived yesterday. Luckily I had the day off work so I was wheezing and blowing into it all day. I can get a good steady D out of it now-which isn’t bad for the first day I suppose…the joys of being a beginner.I’ve got one question though. Am I supposed to grease or oil the tuning slide. Cause I tuned it when I got it, but it took a bit of effort. Also I’ve heard concerns that the tuning slide on the M+E are quite loose(so whats going on with my flute?!). So, again if anyone has any suggestions-and maybe i’ll post a clip when i get anyway fluent at all.

Congratulations! My R&R from Michael arrived last week, and I love it!
The tuning slide was a bit stiff at first, but once the grease on it breaks up a bit, it does loosen. I believe that you are supposed to regrease it every once in a while, but not sure with what. (I just hadn’t gotten around to asking yet… )
My M&E came with its own gunk. When I emailed M. Cron. he said to use the same stuff on the slide. It can be made melting half bees wax and half vaseline together. OR use the wax-like sealer that fits around the toilet base - toilet bowl seal. Same stuff, really.
