Web site indicates June delivery if you dig enough, so it will be a while before we hear much, unless somebody gets an early prototype.
Anyone getting on early?
Just FYI.
“Expected delivery early 2003.” translates to Jan-Feb, 2003

Original date I found on the website was June. If it’s really Jan/Feb, so much the better. ![]()
I had the oppurtunity to hear an older keyed copeland at a camp last year. I wasn’t playing flute at that time, but it did have a nice sound. Sorry I can’t comment any more about them, but i believe a copeland should be a fantastic instrument.

Hi Jim,
You wouldn’t happen to have a keyless that I could look at in the shop would you? I’ll be looking to buy in the spring but I’m gathering info now and Philadelphia is only an hour and a half away from me. Maybe I could come down and take a look?
Let me know.
Thanks

Sure, just give us a call to make sure we’re free and the time is right. We do have a flute to play and get a taste. The phone numbers are on the web site.
Jim
Thanks Jim,
I’ll be in Ireland all next week but when I get back I’ll give you a call or drop you an email and we can set something up.
Thanks again,
Copeland flutes were nice flutes until he stopped making them. I’ve had several go through my hands (and lips), the last a dandy 8-key made of Brazilian rosewood.
But the flutes were not all uniform. Michael was trying many different models as a foundation point, from Rudall to Pratten, from one-piece to two-piece bodies, large and smaller embouchures, round and oval, so the caliber of each varies.
He made some keyless and some with 1 key, or with several.
The blackwood ones were generally pretty good, Rosewood not so much. His Rudall design was nicer than the Pratten, just easier to play.
I suspect Michael is choosing one type to stick with on this new venture. I’ve heard he’s had a large order of boxwood and cocus sent to him for this project.
Anyway, I’ll look forward to his latest.
David,
We are working in all Blackwood for the moment. No other woods, other than a few sticks of Rosewood are in our shop.

I’ve no idea, Loren. I haven’t, unfortunately – I’d love to try one out, based on what you’ve said about their quality. But, is it my imagination, or have his prices jumped since these threads began?Ah, I was thinking Copley, not Copeland. Never mind…
Gordon, you are not the first to confuse Copley and Copeland, and I cannot think of a nicer person to get confused with. Between Byrne/Burns and Copley/Copeland, the wooden flute world is becoming a confusing place.
No, we have not raised prices recently. The last increase was in December 2001. I hope I have not caused more confusion with a posting about Copley flutes on a thread which started with Copeland.

Just bumping this back up to see if anyone has tried any of the new Copelands yet. Reviews anyone?

Dave, since Jim just bumped this up top, I never read your response to my somewhat understandable (but embarrassing) confusion of your name with Copeland’s, and removed my non-responses. Thanks for the clarification on your current prices; I think I added your site to my favorites after Dec., '01, so it’s always been the same for me..
Thanks again.
Now, everyone, back to Loren’s original question and your regularly scheduled programming.

Just a quick update…
We have moved in to our new shop early in the month, but as luck would have it, we’re still mostly in unpacking mode.
Some limited whistle production, but with the flutes, we decided to get the shop completely setup, which we hope to do in 3 or 4 more weeks, before breaking out the Blackwood again.
Happy New Year,
Jim
