New CD 'Contemporary Traditional Irish Guitar' by Dave Flynn

Hi everyone,

This new album should be of interest to many of you interested in Irish music played on Guitar. The album is called ‘Contemporary Traditional Irish Guitar’ and it’s performed by award-winning Irish guitarist and composer Dave Flynn.

It may seem a bit odd to call any music contemporary and traditional, but that’s exactly what the music on this recording is. The oldest tunes on this recording date from around the 1950’s, most are much more recent than that.

The majority of the music on this recording is by Paddy Fahey and the rest of the tunes are by Ed Reavy, Tommy Peoples, Liz Carroll, Charlie Lennon, Larry Redican and Dave Flynn. They are all fiddle tunes and Dave Flynn has arranged them for solo fingerstyle nylon string guitar using some unusual tunings which are based on the open strings of the fiddle, namely DGDGAE, DADGAE, CGDGAE and BbFDGAE.

The album is available as a digital download here http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/DaveFlynn1
It is available as a CD from there too and it is also available in Custy’s Music Shop in Ennis.
It should be available elsewhere soon, including iTunes and Amazon.
