new case

Hi Folks,

I just bought a good case for a 1/2 or 3/4 set. It was made for a Mountain Dulcimer, but it fits my Lynch 1/2 set perfectly. It has a rigid shell and a plush interior. I found it at a local music store, but you can get one here:

Like it, Jeff… 4" though, no problem squishing the bellows?

The McSpadden one has a different cover top, but it is the same one??

it’s the same case Jeff, only without the McSpadden branding on it. The bellows fits great, no extra “squishing”.

Jeff, I just got mine too! It’s a nice little case, solid and yet light. I took out the end divider… just twist it out, does not wreck the rest of the case, as it’s an add-on. My half set fits in one piece, with extra chanter. I like it! Thanks for the lead.

My new “Mountain Dulcimer Case” arrived, THANKS TO ALL YOUR POSTS!!, and it is absolutely perfect for my new Lynch 1/2 set. I really hated to daily take the pipes apart and then hope my feeble mind could put them back together again. I get to keep it all together along with a whistle or two and a “wee dram” if I’m so disposed. Again THANKS!!

Nice setup, Jeff. I understand the desire to not have to take apart your set: I have a C full set with a straight base drone, and used to carry it about in a Winchester double rifle safe so as to keep it all together and ready to go (had to detach the bellows, but no big deal, there). In my case, that was its only convenience, as the case was unwieldy and I could only transport it by standing it up and leaning it back in the front passenger seat of my car (a big no-no in Minnesota if you have actual rifles in them. You can imagine the interest that followed me from the occasional cop). Getting into people’s homes, to say nothing of not banging into people, furniture, and knicknacks was an exercise in delicacy. Royce aptly called the rifle case “The Refrigerator”.

I just recently got this instead:

Tore out the arrow-holding stuff and filled that and the corresponding empty space below with foam. Perfect.

I remove the lower part of the bass drone and detach the bellows. There’s additional room enough for the box-o-crap, the odd whistle or a spare chanter, my reading glasses, and surprisingly that’s about it. It’s still a biggish case (one fellow understandably but wrongly assumed I had two sets in it), but now I can at least lay it down on the back seat or put it in the trunk. Anything smaller, and I’d have to take off the bass reg endcap and reed, and I just don’t see the virtue in that.

People keep asking me if it was originally a hammer dulcimer case!
