I’ve finally gotten tired of my 8 (!) year old digital camera, so I’ve gotten me a Canon PowerShot SD750. Pics of whistles on my site are going to get a whole lot better!

Does that increase the liklihood of new reviews? ![]()
Tips for taking great pics with a cheap digital camera:
A) Do not use flash. -Never, ever!
B)Avoid sunlight, a rainy or an overcast day gives the best light-conditions.
C) Photographed objects should be placed near a window.
D) Use large pieces of white cardboard as reflectors to lighten up the side of the object that faces into the room.
E)Use a tripod
F)Measure and adjust white balance against a white piece of paper.
G)Use the self-timer function.
H) Use a large sheet of white paper as a background for the objects.
I)Use the close-up (macro) function for distances less than 3 feet.
Here’s an example of the technique described above, the camera is a three year old Nikon Coolpix 4600:

Nice picture and a good list of suggestions. Of all your suggestions, probably the best is to use a tripod and self-timer. It is almost impossible to get a good, sharp shot if you handhold the thing. You almost never can tell when the little bugger is actually firing off, or how long the shutter stays open, and without a flash, you guarantee yourself something unpleasant.
get yourself a Canon Rebel TX or TXi and all your problems will be solved!
Well, that was the thought anyway ![]()
I’m on a couple whistle tours, and I’ve got a couple whistles I haven’t reviewed… ![]()
Also, Greg, I wouldn’t be opposed to lending whistles to review. ![]()
Hi Wanderer,
What a great pic! Wow! How many pixels? Also, what whistle is that?
All the best, Cyril.
CranberryDog:
Do you mean my pic in the post above?
The cam has 4 megapixels, and the whistle is a tweaked tunable Generation-D redtop.
Here’s another pic of the same whistle:

Very nice pictures, it looks like GOLD! ![]()
thank you Bothrops,-polished brass kind of looks like gold.

My new camera’s got 7.1 megapixels and has a ton of features, like macro shots that my old camera doesn’t have..the pic I put up here is only like 25% of the original size. It’s a close-up of a composite Burke mouthpiece. It was just an off the cuff shot without any special prep. I would spend hours with the old camera trying to get pictures half as good.
this morning, i was taking pictures of my shiitake mushroom garden, but that’s not nearly as pretty as a whistle ![]()

Sounds like a decent camera though . . .

The one at the beginning of the thread…it’s on photobucket. Might check to see if that’s blocked.
Check the settings of your browser. I can see the pix.
