Hi from another new whistler. I’ve been lurking for some time now, attempting to learn the whistle over the last several months. Up to now, I’ve been slowly progressing using a home made D whistle based on Guido’s design (thanks Guido!). Although this has served me well, I decided it was time for a better whistle. Based on numerous recommendations searching through the posts, I decided on a Burke brass narrow bore (DBN). I placed an order online directly with burkewhistles.com last Friday afternoon and couldn’t believe it when I arrived home from work Monday with a brand new whistle waiting for me! Thanks, Mike! - I’ve heard of good service, but this is exceptionally outstanding! And many thanks to all who have suggested this whistle - it truly is amazing.
Now, time to go practice …
Welcome to what they call the madness…

My brass D narrow-bore arrived last Wednesday…in time for me to play it at our gig on Saturday! I love it–such a gorgeous sound! The high register is especially nice on my ears after my Susato (which will still have its place at noisier sessions! Even this weekend I pulled it out when we were playing for the ceili dances).
I was just at a show today- lots of different groups- and one of them was playing a whistle with the most wonderful sound- I love my Dixon Trad and all, but this was a really, really neat whistle- first high whistle I’ve heard anyone play at a show that I really had to find out what it was- so I checked out my hunch online- and yes, it was a Burke… so you’ve got a nice whistle there…and I know what’s on my wish list (sigh…)
