Hello,
Just heard about some new audio editting software. It’s called Audacity. It’s open source (Free as in Speech + Beer). Available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Runs on Winders, Linux, + Mac.
I don’t use this kind of stuff but some of you guys do.
cheers,
jb

Hey, thanks dude ![]()
I just installed this program and its great! It even supports VST plugins - there is an archive of 85 FREE ones here http://www.sounduser.com/software/vstplugs/p1.cfm Thanks again dude ![]()
I’m making a post primarily to bump this back to the top of the board.
I actually saw this on Slashdot before I saw it here, but I downloaded it and second (third?) the recommendation. It looks very solid and capable.

I downloaded this when I first saw this post…so far, its much easier to use than multitrackstudio. Ihavent tried to export any MP3s with it, but it looks like it works better than other porrgrms out there.

That’s where I saw it too. I wonder how many c+f’ers read /. too? 5, 10 maybe?
Cheers,

I’ve had Audacity install for about four months now, it works pretty well for everything I’ve done although sometimes I have to undo stuff and figure out how to make the interface do to the sound what I want when doing things like combining multiple mp3’s into one.
It does very well with editing mp3s, and probably Ogg as well, I think I’ve opened oggs with it but I won’t swear to it. In the end, though, I don’t do much audio editing… kinda useful for pulling a tune out of a set, but other than that I haven’t done a lot with it.
It’s definitely the best thing I’ve found under Linux for general audio editing though!

(Oh, and yeah, I read that site too…though I don’t remember seeing anything about Audacity there.)
