I just discovered that Tony Dixon has introduced a new low D whistle in three pieces, tapered, in polymer. It can be bought as it is or with an additional flute head. Or, viceversa, you can buy the three pieces Irish flute and an additional whistle head. I wonder if it is good or not. Tapered low D whistles are quite rare and I never had the chance to play one. Is there any forum member who has had the luck to try this new low D from Dixon ?
HI,
This lucky chap was given a prototype to try out about a month ago. I like it a lot - it is my pick-up-first whistle at the moment. It is basically his three piece flute with a whistle head.
Edit: I will write more about it if there is interest.
Could someone post a picture?
Thanks!
Nate

Phill, yes PLEASE can you tell us more about this whistle ?
I am very interested but I have a concern. I had in the past a cylindrical Dixon low D in polymer and, althought I liked its sound, I returned it because it was too much of an “easy blower” i.e. the low octave -especially the low D and E notes- was so delicate that it was too easy to break into the higher octave.
In summary, it had to be played very lightly with too much - in my opinion- breath control.
I prefer low D whistles that can be “pushed” a bit, like Overtons , Alba and Chieftains.
Is the new 3 pieces Dixon low D so “fragile” too ? Thanks !
