Never Mind.

Update. I’ve changed my mind. I’m going to hang on to this thing for the forseeable future. Thanks for looking.

I am selling my C#/D Castagnari Fazzy. I’m not sure how old it is, however I remember seeing new Castis in this style back in the late 80s and early 90s, so I’d guess it’s from that period.

The box began life as a D/G and was converted to C#/D years ago by master concertina maker Dana Johnson, from whom I bought it in 2005. It has an open stepped 21-button keyboard. The lowest button on the inside row plays B on both the push and pull instead of F#/B.

There are three treble reeds per note, tuned LMM with a stop to take out the low reed. The tuning is pretty damn wet, about four beats per second. But it’s pretty mellow, with none of the shrillness that some Paolos have. Just a beautiful old-fashioned sound. I think it blends very nicely with other instruments. Kick in the low reed and it sounds like you’ve got a party going on in your lap. I’ll try to get some sound samples up this weekend.

There are twelve basses, tuned like this:

The box is in great condition apart from some very small dings. It’s been played in a smoke-free environment all its life.

I am asking US$2000 for this accordion. I will also consider trading it for a two-reed, 8-bass, flat-keyboard B/C box of similar quality, e.g. Castagnari, Saltarelle, Cardin, etc. If you’ve got an 80s Irish Bouebe, I really want to hear from you. Shoot me a PM if interested, or email robgreenway(at)yahoo.com.

How much for the cat? Or is the cat available separately? Is the cat part of the deal? Fine looking cat. Box looks alright too. Would it be out of order to ask why you are looking to part with it? I confess to you now that I am almost certainly unable to fund it, though my mind is now running in tight circles around the problem, and I’ve no equivalent to trade.

Cheers,
Ben

That’s no cat, it’s a computer cozy.

I’m selling the box because (1) it’s more than I need – I hardly use the low treble reed or the basses at all, and they aren’t worth the extra weight for me – and (2) I’ve come round to preferring a flat keyboard. It’s a great sounding instrument, but just not quite right for me at my level.

Ok, here’s what the box sounds like. Listen to the box, not the playing, please.

Pretty damned wet? Sounds like just a perfect amount of tremolo for my taste. Cat sounds a bit muted though.
