Never mind. I worded this weirdly and it didn’t sound the way I wanted it to (i.e. the “requirements” annie speaks of I meant in more of a “I can/am learning to speak German so I could better help an older German-speaking child better than I could a Spanish-speaking child” way but it didn’t come across that way). It’s late anyway. Do they have a smiley face that means “yawn”?
First, I would very strongly suggest that you drop the expectations and requirements. The chance of finding a kid who actually fits them is far less than that of finding a kid who needs you. That’s the one you should adopt.
Then, you can teach that child all about tolerance, bi-lingualism and living a life that honors the gift it is. … and… What a gift you will be, Cran. I hope you manage to do it.
there are dozens of people on the Barbara Sher bulletin board just waiting- holding their breath- to help answer your questions. in fact, there are several regulars there who have adopted foreign children, and can give pointers.

it’s really amazing what happens there- people from all over post their wish/dream and what obstacle(s) they have, then there’s a ton of input and encouragement. i highly recommend it as a place to get started.
btw, private adoptions (expensive, but sometimes just as necessary) from germany are not unheard of.
another thought, do they have orphanages, or state run facilities for orphans? if so, are you able to go overseas and get a job at some such place? it would put you in the thick of things, and get you credibility and refrences…
otherwise, marry a german national.

Thats why I specfically mentioned the Asian and South American countries instead of all Europe–because there are large German-speaking areas there, too. Thanks again.
i understand. it’s hard to convey an hour’s conversation in a post. truly, tho, i hope you swing by barbara’s board. if you watch pbs at all, you may have seen her show- basically that anything your heart tells you you need to do- anything you feel a real passion about, you owe it to yourself to do it.
i think the original was fine, and you ought to put it back up. however it’s interpreted, you never know who’s in the audience that may be in a position to offer just the piece of info you need!

Sorry Cran… I didn’t mean my post to seem so judgemental… I just meant that you will be good for a kid anywhere you find one, and that there are so many right here in arms reach that you might want to be there for. Nothing meant critically. There are kids everywhere that need someone to take them in.
