needing silver flute help for repairs

hey folks:

the foot of my silver flute has become loose just recently. if i hold the flute vertically the foot will fall off. does anyone have any suggestions on simple repairs that i could do to make the foot fit snugly again?

Take it to a woodwind or band repair person. They will be able to fix it in less than 2 minutes, and it shouldn’t cost much.

Dana is giving you good advice.

As a temporary fix until you can get it into the shop, you can use teflon tape in much the same way you would on the tenon of a wooden flute.

Don’t use more than you need, or you may not be able to easily separate the joint again.

Like they said. It’s a simple fix for a woodwind repairer. It’s common with school age flute students who push the foot joint on (often while not having both parts perfectly aligned). Instead, twist it on (and don’t grab the keys while doing so, either, or you’ll screw up adjustments).

I once had a Yamaha 381H (student level) that was vastly improved by proper footjoint fit and a proper setup (adjustments). I had thought I couldn’t play, and had difficulty with getting the low notes. I realized it’s hard to play a flute that leaks.

Thanks for the advice folks. I’ll take it in to get repaired. Thanks for the tips kkrell. In my defense, no one gave me any hands on mentoring when I received the flute as a gift and I don’t hang out with other flutists.
