Well, first of all, I’ve decided that one of my new whistles will be a Burke D. From what I’ve read here on the boards and in the whistle reviews, they are good ones. Does anyone have any recommendations about the material? I know I want a narrow bore D (as I really only play by myself and I live in a house with thin walls.) At the moment, I’m leading towards brass as the material I pick, but I’m perfectly willing to be persuaded otherwise.
Another opinion is cheap whistles to try out. I’m wanting to get a couple that aren’t high D to try out, to see if I like any of them. Mostly, I’m looking at high F, Eb, C and Bb. At first, I thought Susato would be a good company to order from, as they are pretty inexpensive and are available in a narrow bore as well. However, here on the boards I have seen some people complain about them, saying they sound like recorders. What does everyone think about that? If you think Susato is a bad company to go with, do you have any suggestions about who else to go with that is nearly as cheap and preferably available in narrow bore? If you think Susato is a good company to go with, would you recommend the one piece whistles or a set with one head and several bodies?
Thanks again for everyone that offers help. And of course, thanks for putting up with yet another whistle newbie ![]()
