I’ve been asked to write up a short historical piece on Chief O’Neill. I
need a fairly high resolution photo of the man to accompany the piece.
The photo needs to be between 3 x 5 inches and 4 x 6 inches.
Unfortunately, all of the photos that I’ve found on the internet print at
roughly 1 x 2 inches. Enlarging them just increases the graininess and
ruins the image.
I would really appreciate it if anyone has a photo of the man in a book or
other source that they can scan with a higher quality resolution between 3
x 5 inches or 4 x 6 inches and post on the forum for me to download,
Thanks. Unfortunately, I was already there and did that – As I said in my original post, these photos come out to roughly 1 x 2 inches when printed, and are too grainy when enlarged.
Will, I followed the link Denny posted, picked one picture and went to the see full size picture link. That one printed out 2.25" x 3.25". If you would print that on "best’ or ‘photo’ quality it would probably enlarge fairly well.
I also checked our local library as well before posting. None of the libraries in the area have any of his work. The bookstores said they don’t have any in stock either, but I could order one. The problem is I need to submit the piece in 2 days. I submitted the request here because none of those resources had panned out. I appreciate the suggestions, though.
I just thought that someone reading this might already have one of O’Neill’s books and help me out by scanning a photo for me.
Thanks, Judy. The size I’m going for still comes out a little grainier than I would like. But I’ll use it if I don’t have anything else.
you might have already done so, so if you have, forgive me for beating the dead horse as it were…
have you tried Google Images yet? If a good sized one exists on the web, you should be able to find it there.
Thanks, Tyler. But I’ve already been there and done that, too. The websites all seem to use lower resolution images to conserve space, but they still look good on the monitor. When printed at the size I need, they start getting fuzzy. While the enlargement isn’t necessarily of poor quality, it’s not as nice as I would like, either. I guess I may have to just use what I’ve got. Oh well.
Most images for internet viewing are sized at 72 dpi (dots per inch) to match, more or less, the screen viewing resolution. You could probably get by with 150 dpi if you’re going to photocopy your material. You’d want 300 dpi for a nice printed piece.
That said, and since you’ve already done the Google Images thing, go to sources likely to have nice images, and then ask them for permission to use them and ask to have an image e-mailed to you.
