I am playing a set of Garvie Session pipes and I find myself frequently twisting the neck of the bag while playing. This never gets to the point of shutting off the air to the chanter, but I do notice it having a strangling effect, especially on the e, g and g# notes. I am currently using a blowpipe which is slightly too short and I have a longer one on order, so I will probably not make any changes until I have tried that out.
My question is; is it normal for players to adjust the length/tie-in of the neck to fit their body position and posture, or is it more normal to adjust posture etc to fit the pipes. None of this happens with my GHB - though maybe the extra pressure is holding the neck open anyway?
This isn’t a big problem - just a bit of a niggle that I would rather be without.
