NE WHISTLE GATHERING A SUCCESS

Me fer sure, and maybe our friend Eric, the Native American flutemaker. I plan on bringing the double flute he made me anyway, btw: one barrel tuned like a whistle, with a second drone barrel.

Me 2: I’ll try to pick up some hotdogs, buns, and sundries in town on my way in. How many are we up to now? I’m counting about 20 from this thread.

Robin

I’ll be there for sure.

Arleen and the six munchkins are about 90% probable, depending on how she’s feeling.

Best wishes,
Jerry

ACK! I’m now in negotiation with Tyg-in-laws to get free time on Sunday. I’m now a maybe, and Tyghre himself is a probably not.

We’ll see…we’ll see…

My hubby and I are hoping to make it. My daughter might be able to tag along, too. So put us down for 3. If you need cash to cover our spots please let me know. If for some reason we don’t make it, I’m more than happy to reimburse you. We REALLY appreciate all you’ve done to organize our gathering (and bloomfield, too).

Peace,
Fran
:sunglasses:

Ditto. If it’s bad weather, or my family backs out, etc. just let me know where I can send the reimbursement. PM is ok.

Robin

Planning to be there & looking forward to it!

Bump, with a tentative weather forecast…
Partly sunny/cloudy but no major forecast for rain at present. Temp in the mid 70’s.

Couple of questions/requests:
Refresh my memory on the time of the meeting.
Is it possible to request a site which has some shade? Wooden instruments (whistles, flutes, guitars, mandolins, etc are not happy campers if they have to sit out in the hot sun).
As I recall, we’re all on our own with regard to food, as opposed to a group purchase of burgers, hot dogs, etc, right? I’ll probably just grab a sub on the way over.
Is beer allowed in the park?
Can’t wait!

I suggested 2 to 5 pm, and that seemed to meet with approval.

Slowair, can you confirm that you are calling the park to make the reservation?

As for beer: It says on the webpage that cans & bottles must be recycled, and that beer kegs aren’t allowed. By way of negative inference therefore, beer cans & bottles are alloed.

Here are directions: http://www.lookpark.com/directions.html

Let me know if anyone needs more detailed guidance, of if you (Paul, Jerry?) are coming down Rt 116 or Rt 9.

The First Northeast Whistle Gathering is all set.

We have four tables reserved. They are Section 32, tables A, B, C, and D. Go directly to the tables after entering the park. You’ll be reimbursing me for the permit, so don’t go to the Information Center and pay. Go right to the tables.

If you have not signed up already, there is still room for a few more, but you must let me know. After we have filled up the tables, stragglers are on their own. You are still welcome to come, but you will have to purchase a permit for another table and it may not be near us.

People mentioned if alcohol is permitted. There is an additional $5.00 fee for that permit. That’s $5.00 for the permit, not per person. Neither Nancy or I drink, so those of you who plan to drink alcohol will have to split that $5.00 fee amongst you. Sorry, those who don’t drink shouldn’t be expected to share in the cost. Just keep in mind that you must take the empties with you when you leave. Park rules.

I informed the park that we will be playing instruments and they told me if they get complaints, we will be asked to stop. If this happens, which it shouldn’t, we can meet in an area of the park away from others. It’s a very big place.

Also, as per Paul’s request, we are supposedly in a shaded area.

We have the tables all day. I plan on being there around noon. If you arrive earlier than that, just make use of the many attractions in the park until I get there and obtain the permit. The park closes at dusk.

I did NOT count maybe’s in the final count, except for Jerry who was 90% sure. If you gave me a maybe on your party, you will get first consideration for overflow. The way the list looks right now is as follows:

spittin-in-the-wind (4)
Bloomfield (1)
Brewerpaul (1) (2) possibles
dunnp (3)
franfriel (3)
Lloyd Allen (3)
slowair (2)
Tygress (2) possible

One party wanted their own table. Nancy and I are getting a table as well. That leaves room for the possibles and some who have not signed up as of 7-21-04.

Check the park webiste for location of our tables.

http://www.lookpark.org/

Grills and wood for a fire are included in the permit fee. Everyone is on your own for food.

Bring your whistles and any other instruments. Just remember, if one or all of us get too loud and there are complaints, we’ll have to play somewhere else in the park.

Come early, have fun, don’t drink too much…we want everyone back for the next gathering.

Let me know if you have any questions.

This is going to be worth it just to see if Bloomfield looks like his avatar.

Mike

I wish I still had that much hair…

Thanks, slowair for taking this on!

You’re welcome. It’s my pleasure. I love meeting whistle folk.

“I wish I still had that much hair…”

Okay, so less hair…

Do you still have the multi-colored swirly thing behind you?

What are you talking about? Swirly thing behind me?

Are you sure you don’t drink?!?

I still say it’s Jack Benny…oh…Rochester…

Philo

Bring cameras…

Also, the West Coast Gathering had someone with some kind of r#c*rd!r (minidisc, etc., that is); it might be fun if someone brought a recording device.

Hmmm…where did I leave my whistles?

Robin

Oh, by the way, I was hoping to get there in the morning and ride bikes, etc. but I’m sure we will get sucked into the Tour de France vortex until about 11 or 12, so we may not get there until more like 2 anyways.

I sure hope people don’t make us stop playing! What’s a whistle gathering without whistling?! Let’s just hope we don’t have the annual gathering of the North American Tinnitus Society at the next table…

Robin

I looked at the map of the park and noticed a river: anyone know if it’s navigable? I might be tempted to throw my kayak on the car and get there early for a bit of paddling!

it’s heinz ehrhardt. was a german actor.

You are being a very bad boy, Amar! Tsk, tsk, tsk!

It was the pose of that avatar that threw me; from the front, I can see, why of course, it’s Heinz
