Name that Tune...its a long shot...

Ok I know its a long shot, but I have been searching for a tune that I heard on a movie.

The Movie is from the Early 90s, but i cannot remember the name of it, maybe somebody else knows.

The film is set in the 1500s (ish) with Spanish and Portugese arrival in South America, missionarys are set up to try and spread christianity. The film is set around a missionary and the priests, who attempt to protect the people against the Spanish soldiers.

Their is a piece of music in this film, played on the flute or whistle, which is very powerful, does anyone remember this film, or know the tune which I am talking about?

Iam I asking too much?

Dale Turner

You are probably thinking of the film The Mission:

I don’t remember any flute/whistle music in it, but I believe the “main” theme is played on an oboe. Ennio Morricone is the composer for the movie.

Jens

maybe it’s the track called “Gabriel’s Oboe”

Wow that was quick, I think that you are both right, the film has Robert De Niro in it?

So their isnt any whistle music in it then, its been a long time since I heard that piece of music, I remember that its a very moving piece.

Great, thanks for your help! :stuck_out_tongue:

It gets asked about every couple of weeks on the doublereed mailing list.

So The Mission is the Andrea Corr of the doublereed list?
