I would gather, then, that union pipers did not spend much on clothes (or on eye glasses, for that matter) back then. They sure seemed to spend a lot on pipes, though.

Isn’t that the Carraroe Jig?
I don’t think the Connemara Jig really carried forward but ended up in Joyce as its name. Clare Jig, etc would have multiple occurances somewhat straightened out by the O’Neills.
I think Gabriel Byrne’s words appply perfectly to piping too:
