Name that busker.

My brother was up in Galway city a couple of weeks back and took this photo of a busker, anyone know who he is . Looks like a nice set of pipes.

RORY

As he has only got one leg he should be easy enough to track down.

Why does a piper on a concert pitch set need 2 microphones? Is he afraid people won’t hear him?

feck sake..try busking! you’d want 4 mics!

if there’s noise from the passers by, etc. you NEED some amplification. the drones many times can become inaudible.

Thats who it is, put patch on his eye and a parrot on his shoulder and its Long John Silver “The pipeing Pirate”.

The chanter looks a bit long to be concert pitch

What is Boston Tiles?

Good question!

BTW, razzmaster, good catch on the Youtube vid!

Aha, I found “Boston Tiles” (strange name!): Pierre Goisbault & Loïc Joucla. Loïc is the piper. His user name is Poupounou here on the Chiffboard.

Pictures of his Froment C set here, if you can untangle the old html code. Same as in the photo and vid, I think:

Yes but who is the one legged busker in Galway

Obviously the stories about the Froment pipes are some what exaggerated. They don’t cost an arm and a leg …

 …Now THAT’s funny!

I don’t know the chap but a tenner says that he’s playing a Froment C# set.

just a guess…

Tommy

Well, I thought that razzmaster already succeeded in nailing the ID as Loïc Joucla / Poupounou , the fellow in the YouTube vid. It sure looks like him. He’s playing a C set in the video, that looks like the Froment C set in the pic above, the same that Loïc posted about here on the Chiffboard. The date and location of the video (August 9) match the time and place of Rory’s photo (“Galway city a couple of weeks back”), and the microphone setup is similar. It all seems to fit.

But maybe not?

Hello,

More about this set : it’s the last one made by the late Alain Froment and it’s a C one .
Here is a little slide show of his construction :

I think this set is rather well played by Loïc.

Salut Loïc ! Serais-tu en train de devenir une star ? A+

Yes that’s me!

thank you Rory for the picture: I’ll send it to my family!
The streets of Galway can be noisy and the 2 mics+amplified system are welcomed (especially when you play a Flat set near the statues)

Busking in the streets is really a good experience: your reeds change everytime and you need to correct your pressure/fingerings each moment. (sometimes it looks like sport)

9 am in Galway —> time to play the “Morning Trush”

Loic

ps:

it depends how long I stayed in the pub before playing

Actually, it was BZH29 who wrote that, but I agree.

Welcome back to the Chiffboard, Loïc …
