Name of tune?

In Heather Clarke’s tutor book, on lesson 11, page 29, there’s a tune written out on the bottom titled “Fling”, any body know the name of it? I went to the Session.org, tried searching, but it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. Anyway it’s a lovely little tune.

Snooped around a bit and damned if I can get you a title for that. You might want to trawl through some Donegal fiddle records for it, but I’m pretty convinced it’s not on the Net anywhere.

Are those Donegal fiddle records online? If so I’ll give it a go then, see what she yields…

As for this “fling”, Maybe it was a tune composed by H. Clarke for the soul purpose of learning? I don’t know, just pondering.. Thankyou though,

Cheers

Hello

From memory the Fling is the air to the song ‘The Town of Ballybay’, a song much beloved by the balladeer fraternity. Air is probably a lot older.

Percy French used a lot of old marchs and flings for the airs to his songs.
