There was a music festival a few weeks ago in Mystic CT, at the seaport which is a recreation of a whaling village. I wasn’t in town, but probably wouldn’t have gone anyway because of my anxiety in crowds.
On a thread in the Mudcats site these pics were posted. I think I know where I’ll be next year!
BTW, Mystic seaport is a cool way to spend a day in CT. . .one of my fave historical reenactment places!
Hey Tyg-- next year, please post about this festival as soon as you hear about it. Char and I might drive down for that one.
Mystic Seaport is indeed a wonderful place.. Last time I was there, I took out my Thin Weasel and played a hornpipe on the deck of the Charles W Morgan-- last fully functional wooden whaling ship in the world. Terrific place for a weekend getaway.
I’d really love to go to this sometime. I know that Mark Bernier (the Bodhran maker) performs with the Mystic Seaport Chanteymen. Skip Healy often performs there as well.
Now, Ty, we need to get you down to Deep River for the muster on the 19th. There are 80 fife and drum corps registered to perform (I’ll be in two of them). One of the highlights will be the performance of the Ancient Mariners, who dress like the U.S. Navy circa 1812 and perform lots of seafaring type songs. They have their own Chanteymen as well.
If anyone is going, let me know and I’ll at least hook you up with a meal and a few cold ones.
