Mystic Pondering #3: I am a Statesman

I think Mystics are noble figures but to most folks out there, we live on the lunatic fringe, a rather enjoyable place but not the heatbeat of America. I am now a Statesman too. Seems anyone can be a Statesmen these days. There are even less requirements than being a notary. I do think having a suit and a good haircut seems to be necessary but I’ll ignore those requirements for now. I think a good statesmen should be (mostly) apolitical and focus on building up this country. Talk about Civic Responsibility should be a big topic. Anyone else know any big topics that can be expressed in an apolitical manner that make me look like I am right?

I’m going to the beach next week with lots of folks who don’t share my extreme political beliefs, that’s why things have to be apolitical but still make me sound like I’m right.

Say that you’re for world peace. And nobody since Thag in 20,000BC has achieved it. And you’ll be the next to.

If I talk about world peace, I’m going to sound like a beauty pageant contestant, not a statesmen. I am not going to win the swimsuit competition at the beach either.
This is one hilarious fail, please click.

Bill Vaughan defined a statesman as anyone it’s safe to name a school after. On my next trip through West Virginia I will keep my eyes peeled for Mutepoint_e_ Middle School. I’m guessing we could have an interesting debate on what would be the appropriate school colors and mascot.

(Edited to correct the thoughtless spelling error before it’s carved in stone above the entrance.)

You’ll have to wait awhile. It’ll be St. mutepointe R.C. Grade School. It takes at least 50 years following the death for sainthood to be achieved. Add to that, I’m still living and the years to build the school.

Is there some chiff board-wide conspiracy for no one to ever spell my name correctly?

I already have my holy card planned. I’m going to be the patron saint of canoeist. Amazingly, there isn’t already one, considering there are multiple saints for heads and multiple saints for migraines. You should see how many patron saints there are for beer. Anyway, being the patron saint of canoeists will necessitate having my holy card in landscape, rather than portrait orientation, throwing off the whole holy card schematic.

So IOW you have finally come to terms with being old?

Thanks, I’ll never recover from hearing that. I’ve been trying to wash the stupid out of my ears for hours now but I think I need some stronger soap.

Cheers,

Kirk

Finally? I have enjoyed being old for a long time. Do you know when the last time was someone yelled at me that I either didn’t laugh, ignore them, or yell back?

That’s not what I meant; sorry for the confusion. I meant you found a use for your old self. Like I did. I don’t think I’ve become a Statesman yet, though. People would have to listen to me for that to happen. I’m frankly envious of your new position.

No. And I couldn’t possibly, now that I think of it. But as a Statesman now you’re kind of expected not to yell any more, I think is how it goes. Like, irony is the new yelling, or something.

I’ll go click the Fail Vid. I could use an entertaining interlude.

…

OMG. She didn’t even break a sweat.

Sorry, did I miss something? How did Mute become a statesman? What defines a statesman and how do they differ from the rest of us mortals?

The media, in any of it’s form, usually gives this designation. A sizable donation helps. Self-proclamation works in a jam. Voila! These days, the title has all the respectability that “Gentleman Farmer” can transfer to the owner.

Folks, I need pithy sayings that can stun the intelligent and dull alike.

&@#% off. I’m busy.

No, really, I am. But I suppose you could put it on the Pithy Sayings list anyway; not only is it pithy, it’s built to stun.

What Mute said. So in a nutshell, everyone plays along, basically.

sometimes ya just gotta work with other’s fantasies…

try adding a bit of salt

What, I wasn’t salty enough?

How about these?

Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself.

I made those up myself. You dang lazy people. That’s what’s wrong with this world. No initiative in the younger generation.
