Thought I would give some impressions of my new flute. It was waiting for me here in Ketchikan when I got here and it is a beautiful thing. Boxwood, tortise shell rings, simulated of course, light as a feather and very well made. I have been very lucky with my flute buying I guess. I have liked them all. I am still breaking this one in so it has been 10 minutes a day and then put it away. When I first started with it I was in trouble. The embouchure hole is so tiny and my lips are so scared up with old stitches and what not that I thought I would never get a sound out of this thing. Over the last couple of days, however, it is coming to life and I can tell you this is a sweetheart. Pure and mellow tone is its natural voice yet it will get into the gutter if you ask nicely. Very resposive and in tune. I have found that it is easy to screw up the intonation if Im not careful. It is easy to play in tune but is also easy to play out of tune. It take next to no air or effort to play. Next week I will be able to play longer sessions and get to know her better but I think I am dealing with the best 300 daller traverso a man could find. It is in A=440 by the way so on the off chance I end up playing with someone else it should be ok. Does have me courious about 415 though. Well off to the horses for a while and maybe get a little sailing in today, this is the most beautiful place I have been in in a long time. May never leave.
