My progress video Kesh Jig

for you edification, consolation, degredation & constipation , and for you guys to critique this newb so I can get better. Your hints have helped me , thank you

Hey, it’s sounding pretty good! Stylistically, I like
what you’re doing with the A part and would prefer
the B part to match it more. Right now the B part
seems too staccato to me, esp. compared with the
A part.

You appear to have a problem occasionally staying
in rhythm when taking a breath. You may want to
try printing out the tune and marking where you
will breathe so it doesn’t take you by surprise. Or
playing with a metronome, and making sure you
come back on the proper beat after a breath,
even if you have to drop a note. Staying in rhythm
is way more important than getting all the notes in.

Part is red light fever, soon as I hit record , I play it faster than I can competently do , and breath. still so green, but I shall work on it.
thank you

Man, I know that one! Have you tried
doing rolls on this tune yet? It’s a good
one to practice G rolls on. Sometimes
they can help slow you down, if you
practice the roll at a certain speed and
then start the tune at that roll speed,
it can keep you in check (sometimes).

That Parks whistle sounds pretty good…

  I know that feeling too well. Good job though.

Thats a good heads up , I will practice that.
what about the 2nd half that g is hard to do for me. , can it be played w/ tonguing?
stupid question,
I just watched Cheng and Eng Murphy do it , gosh

If I could only transport myself to San Diego to learn from the Guru

Not perfect, but a great start! Way better than I can do (& I’ve been at it some 18 months, now). Now how about a rousing version of “Tom Hark”, for an encore…

Steve, you’re ready for the classic piece of beginner’s advice: Lose the Tonguing (for now).

Your tone and intonation are good. Now remember my PM, and Keep It Going. Don’t cut those notes short, no staccato. Keep the notes flowing from one note into the other without any breaks in between, except when you pause for a breath.

That’s harder to do in the A part, since you have to articulate the repeated notes somehow. But the B part you should be able to get through with almost no tonguing. Once you can do that, you can start adding some articulation back in. For example, by tonguing every group of 3 as an exercise.

Of course, the best part of your video is the primal grunt at the end.

If it’s useful to you, here’s my version of the tune on the Tradlessons.com site:

Looks like it was useful!
