I just returned from a wonderfull time in Houston and plan to make a post thanking all the folks that helped make that happen. However, there was one not so nice thing that happened.
I lost (or had stolen) a Chieftain Gold Mezzo-A whistle. In addition to having the key “A” engraved on the front side below the last finger hole, it also has my initials “LM” engraved on the back side (opposite the “A”). This was a special whistle for me with sentimental value. It was also my favorite non-D whistle to play. I was in the process of learning Ashokan Farwell and it sounded glorious.
If any one finds this or if it shows up for sale on ebay, please, let me know.

Lee if you email me some details I can forward it to my brother, he lives in Houston. While not a musician I may be able to strong-arm him into keeping an eye out. A pic would be good, too, if you have one, as he wouldn’t know a Generation from a Chieftain from a recorder.

That’s terrible! Do you know where it ended up missing from?? I can’t imagine anyone at the sessions swiping it..
I’ll keep my eye out…a gold chieftain’s pretty hard to miss. I hope it turns up!

I’m not sure where I lost it. I’ve asked the folks at the Harp and at MuckyDucks to keep an eye open for it. I thought someone might have picked it up late, after I left for the night, and planned to bring it back at the next session to see whose it was. It dissappeared about 2 weeks before I left Houston to come back up here to DC. I also have folks at the Hyatt keeping an eye open for it. Its distinctive in that Phil Hardy had my initials “LM” ingraved/stamped onto the whistle. If found, there shouldn’t be any doubt as to weather its mine. Just to be clear, the Chieftain “gold” isn’t made of gold, its made of heavy brass, with a very sweet sound.
I still hope it’ll turn up, if you get a chance to check with the session folks at Mucky or Harp, I’d appreciate it.

Last night I overheard Rex talking with Mark about something that they thought might be Larry Mallette’s that was left at the Harp. He’s got your same initals, you know.
I’ll ask Mark about it Sunday..he’s almost always there. Until then, please don’t let my message get your hopes up, in case the news is not good.
