MY GREEN OVERTON LOW F IS COMING!!!!!!!!

Hey!
Brigitte emailed me a couple of hours ago and told me that my F is ready!!! I called them to give them payment info, and again had a lovely conversation with Colin. He is so nice. He even played my new whistle for me to hear. Merry CHRISTmas to me!
God Bless!

I’m sure that you’ll enjoy playing your Overton ‘f’ as much as i enjoy playing mine-and yes,Colin and Brigitte are really great people to do business with!

Congrats, SkyWatcher!!! You know what that means?? My blue low F must not be far behind!

Word of warning: Phone calls to Germany are not cheap unless you have an international calling plan!! A 4 minute call from California placed in the middle of the night came to $13! For longer calls, it worked out to $2.60 a minute! With the international calling plan, it would have been 12 cents a minute with MCI. Live and learn. It was worth it, though! Brigitte and Colin are top-notch people!

Hey Vaporlock,
MCI told me that I could call a day or so BEFORE I made the international call to switch to an international calling plan, then
AFTER I made the call to Germany, I would call them to switch it back. They said that it would save me some money. Maybe you could call MCI and double check it with them if you call Germany again.
I hope your blue F reaches you the same day my green one reaches me. Maybe we could play “The South Wind” together in celebration!!
Enjoy your whistle, and Happy Holidays!!!

Caution!!!
Since I got my low F from Colin, I haven’t hardly been playing anything else anymore, so careful you don’t get addicted to it as I did.
Cheers

It arrived today!!! Wow, what a whistle!! Lovely blue anodizing, easy blowing, and a warm, rich tone. It prompted me to purge my whistle collection…well, that and the fact that I want a set of small pipes

I think I may have to collect them all!!

Overton low Fs… heck yeah!
I just got back from a mindblowingly good recording session laying down a breathtakingly beautiful old Christmas song, originally in Gaelic and collected by Seamus Ennis in the Hebrides, for voice (my mom’s), piano, concertina and Overton low F. The Overton low F blew me away (no pun intended)!
We should have it mixed and ready to go before Christmas and I’ll post an mp3 of it here as soon as it’s in my hands. I’m not one to say this kind of thing, but you are going to love this! I think it’s one of the most beautiful songs and arrangements that I’ve ever heard. I couldn’t be happier right now!
Best,
Chris

My blue F is on its way too! Colin (such a dear!) said that this latest batch of blue is the best ever.

Hearing what you all have to say,I am even more eager for it to arrive!

Do we have enough people to form an Overton F club here or what?

I’ll join that Club!

My Overton F is a Bernard Overton one, not a Goldie, and it’s just the plain aluminium colour.

There are two reasons I don’t play this whistle as much as I might. First, because it needs extensive warming before play, and I tend to play in short bursts (advert breaks, tea making etc), I rarely have time to warm and play it! Second, the holes are quite sharp on the edges, and I find them uncomfortable under my fingers. I believe Colin chamfers his off to avoid this.

That said, it’s a great whistle with a lovely warm tone, and I guess if I was better at getting down to serious practise, I’d get used to both these idiosyncrasies.

My most played “low” is actually a Dixon mezzo-soprano A, which requires no warming, nor knee-shifting if playing while sitting.

Skywatcher,
My wife calls her family in Switzerland and Italy 2-3 times per month. We use 10-10-220. A recent 45 minute call costed around $7. Give it a try.
Mike

I find my self calling to Germany quite a bit (extradition treaties are such a nuisance) and I use 1016868: 9c/minute and no monthly fee, need to change plans, etc.

My black mezzo soprano big bore C is on the way, too. Colin played this over the phone for me as well. I’m in a rural delivery area, and getting plenty of exercise walking back and forth to the mailbox!
