My mom gave me an Oak D and Sweetone D w/ instructional books for both (the Oak has a CD with it) for Christmas. I can immediately recognize what everyone says about them, the difference in airflow and tone and switching to the higher octave and whatnot. The fingering is more responsive than I expected, but I played something vaguely resembling a tune and I am very excited about learning! Yay!

My wife splurged on a high ender. It’s not one I would have bought for myself because to me it looks like a cross between a chair leg and a wooden recorder. It’s a Ralph Sweet Professional Model, made from compressed birch. My first wooden whistle. I like it! Nice and loud. Very nice tone. The D is a tad flat, which I like because it allows me to bring the other notes into tune using Scotch tape to flatten them. So I have a great whistle and many weeks of minor tweaking ahead of me…which is pure joy.
I’d recommend this unit to anyone in an acoustic session. Other than possibly a Copeland it’s the only whistle I’ve played that combines powerful volume with a full round tone. No screechyness or Susato type sound.

I got my husband a Ralph Sweet rosewood piccolo. He’s been playing that Cooperman fife for months now (and getting better and better at it), and I thought he might enjoy a really nice instrument that was more suitable for indoor play. It has a beautiful, round tone…he’s played it a bit this morning, and is in love with it already!

My Oak, being nickel as they are, has some fingerprints around the holes (duh), but they dont really rub off, is that normal?

I got Roxio Toast from the other Weekender so I can burn 100% CDs instead of mp3 stepped-on versions…There may have been a way to do it with the native Apple software but i sure couldn’t find it…
I received Grey Larsen’s new book and a baritone Ukulele.
I have no idea how to play the Uke, but my plan is to tune it like a tenor banjo and give it a whirl. If anyone has advice, let me know.

Since none of my family had the cash or the contacts to feed my love of (high end) whistles, I bought myself a Village Smithy for christmas (thanks fenguin!). Once I got used to the backpressure (just a little more then my elfsongs ) I found the tone to be delightful, my friend loves it too, mainly because he always blows to hard and flips octaves way to easily. Dhigbee, I love my elfsongs, hopefully you will too, but her E really is a sweet one

I already have a combo set of high F, F# & G whistles (you know, dog calling whistles). I’ll be getting a high D/E combo soon.
