My first thread: Mack Hoover building a whistle

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting Mack Hoover’s shop. While I was there, he built a wonderful CPVC low E for me. I “helped” (read: took lots of pictures while he did all the work).

Here is my Mack-approved whistle photojournalistic endeavor.

Thanks to Mack for sharing with you and to you for sharing with us. Nice insider pics.

Great pics. Timely subject for me, too, since I’m strongly considering a low E.

Nice pictures! I love seeing how other whistlemakers do their thing.
So? How does it play? :stuck_out_tongue:

It plays really nice. Very round tone, and especially nice from the middle of the lower octave through the middle of the upper octave.

We always struggle with low whistles in our sound system, because the sound pressure is low on the bottom couple of notes, so I have to lean waay into the mike.

I played the mezzo A this morning on a song - very clear, sweet tone!

Nice post , Mark ! Thanks for sharing your inside view !!

Have a Great Day and Fun Whistling !!

I really enjoyed your photos, I like nosing around other people’s workshops. Mack’s adaptation of the two piece Clare sounds absolutely superb I hope to get one soon. Your own website is great, a lot for us newbie whistlers to get our teeth into.

Well, I’m Dazzled! Thanks.

Please let me know if there is something you’d like to see on my website, either by PM, or I have an e-mail address linked on every page, too.

Thanks,

Mark
