I was recently given a 4-key, rosewood flute. A friend paid $10 for it at a yard sale and was about to make a lamp out of it. (!)
It is marked C. Peloubet, New York, factory in Bloomfield, NJ. Ivory rings divide the tenons. There are two big cracks; one in the headjoint and one in the barrel. The cork is broken in half, and the end cap is missing. A quick google search dates it to the 1830s.
Is this thing worth fixing?
If it is worth a lot, I’d love to swap it straight-up for a keyless M&E polymer.
Hi Greg,
They are lovely flutes, I have one just as you describe. Here is a picture of it restored.
Email if you want to trade it in on a delrin flute.
