Hello everybody , I come from Taiwan
This is my first post. and I have got a paddy flute from Ted three weeks ago.
I have played tin whistle for one year, and just start to learn flute.
Please give me some advices. Thanks.
Tau,
you’ve got the basic melody, but you may want to change your timing on this tune.
The way you are currently playing it sounds more like a reel without any accents…keep in mind this is a slip jig… the way I play this tune is to accent each first beat in each measure, also slow it down a bit, slip jigs are going to be slower than how you are playing on this recording, generally speaking.
also I’m not trying to play musical detective, but did you just pick up this tune from a book without hearing it played? A music book is fine, but you really need to hear it played to get the “feel” of how you yourself need to play it.
Also the tune is spelled as Barney Brannigan
Ben Shaffer
I know it as Barney Brallaghan. The Roche Collection (1912) and White Collection (1896) have it as Barney Brallaghan. O’Neill’s 1001 and Cole’s 1000 call it Barney Brallaghan. Irishtune.info and The Fiddler’s Companion list it as Barney Brallaghan.
Well, you get the idea. ![]()
Keep up the good work!!! ![]()
U show me a good way to preform this song.
I will follow ur advice and play again.
Thank you.
