Something really cool happened several nights ago. My cat (Luna) was missing for hours. I had gone out to dinner and had left her oustide because I couldn’t find her, and when I got back, it was dark and there was no Luna to be found. Sola (her sister) was not happy. I kept walking outside and calling her. Then I came back in all sad, and suddenly, out of nowhere, a tune came to me as quickly as I could write down its notes (letters). Of course I called it Luna’s Air, before I played or wrote down one note of it. I think it’s in Em. I felt as if Luna had given it to me telepathically, and I hoped she wasn’t dead. I went outside with my Abell whistle and the paper with the tune written on it and sat down on the front deck. I played through the whole air once and as I started a second time through, Luna came running to me, meowing.
Since that night, I have used the new technique (whistle cat-calling) 5 more times and it has worked without fail. When she’s gone for hours (she really loves being outside), I go outside with a whistle (I have also used a Thin Weasel) and play an air. She comes to me before I play through it twice. I could not have planned this! I love it!
Jessie- My banjo is on a stand in the bedroom. Sometimes my wife’s favorite cat(an albino tom named Hello Kitty) bats the strings with his paw to wake me up (I suppose. I think it’s pretty cool.

Hi Jessie,
that’s really cool. I think if I played for my cat and dog they’d keep on running!! Love the names by the way, maybe I should call my cat and dog McGoldrick and McSherry. On second thought’s maybe that’s not such a good idea.
Our white cat (after years of fighting about their names, we finally decided upon “The White Cat” and “The Black Cat”)takes the direct approach and shakes me awake in the morning with her paw - just like an annoying human would do. Oh well, after all, they do graciously allow me to clean up their poop and ocassional vomit, feed them and brush them; I shouldn’t complain.
Hi again Jessie,
it had crossed my mind that perhaps I was adding 2+2 and getting 5 but it just sort of leapt out at me, bet you’re glad you did’nt name one of them “Britney”
My girlfriend lives next to a long time friend. Before we started to date she would hear me playing at my friends house, and would come over. She’s a real cat.
As soon as I start to play my whistles, any key, BT my son’s old cat will come over to have a perch next to me and listen. She evn comes upstairs when I am playing in the back room. I actaullay have a photo of here listening in the film that’s in the camera at the moment. I also have pet ferrets that like it and you would expect them to find the sound too shrill and hurt their ears.
My girlfriend’s cats can’t stand whistling, either with a whistle or with my lips. I thought it was a frequency thing, but they don’t like the low whistles either.
