I just got a Burke DAN in the mail (thank you BoneQuint), and upon some preliminary playing, it is exquisite.
I have decided that I love the Cn thumbhole, also. I guess, being versed in the playing of both saxophone and bassoon, that sort of fingering just makes sense to me.
Anyone else use a Cn thumbhole, btw?
It’s just silly how smooth the high register of this whistle is. I guess since I’ve had only some cheapies, a dixon, and some susatos and syns, I’m not used to such a clear and easily-reached upper register.
Burkes are like that. I have two, and they are wonderful.
I don’t have a Burke with the C-nat thumbhole, but I do have a Hoover that has one. I found it very quick and easy to get used to, and I’ve not had any trouble with switching between the whistle that has it and those that don’t.
I was going to say, “Congratulations” but then you’d just say, “What?”. Then I’d say, “Congratulations,” and you’d say “What?” And we’d go on like that for hours like some Abbot and Costello bit gone awry. Then someone would slap us.
I love my DASBT but I find that the tone is kind of bland (lacks complexity) after playing a Water Weasel I guess I was meant to play a Wooden Whistle good thing I got a Bleazy on the way.
Yes… I get the whole “poor college student” thing, since I just entered college as well. I am really not complaining at all though, and the college I am going to has an Irish band that I am part of. So very cool.
Oh, Lord, I can’t find ANYTHING down here. I thought I found a session the other day, but it turns out it was an outdated entry, and the session was located in a restaurant that no longer exists.
I must admit that my Burke has been my very favorite since it arrived in my hands. I still love the rest of my whistles, including my old Gens, my O’Briens, my Water Weasel, Howard, even my old Camacs, and all, but the Burke is undoubtedly the shining star.

I am a poor High School kid (my parents have this thing against giving me any money but I had a job not any more the job no longer exists) that saved up for a long time to buy a Flute then found one for $350 and has some extra cash to spend on a Whistle I chose the Bleazy. I have been playing Bassoon in school for five-ish years and would the thumbhole annoying I also play GHBs which have a thumbhole and it always feels tooo high up for comfort that is probably the Bassoon player in me having the thumb between the ring and middle fingers not paralell to my first finger.
