My new Syn arrived today on my 50th birthday( I take this as a sign of good things to come). It arrived after only two weeks and I want to thank Mr. Syn for his promptness.
Now on to my impressions of the whistle. As I’m a fairly new player I’ll do the best I can. The whistle arrived in perfect condition with no scratches or burrs. It feels great in my hands and plays wonderful as well. I had no problems playing in both octaves. It plays as nice or a lttle better as my Dixon and I prefer the heavier feel of the Syn. The larger mouthpiece takes a little getting use to but was easily done. It has low air requirements and is very easy to play. The sound is very pure and pleasing to my ear. It is much sharper than my Dixon and tweaked Clark.
The tuning slide is perfect not too tight or too loose. I did not encounter any of the gunk or oil as some of the eariler whistles which were reviewed. I’m not sure if I just got lucky with this one or if the whistles made further down the production line are of better quality as the process was prefected.
All in all I am very happy with the Syn and feel it is a good value. I feel comfitable reccomending it as a fine mid-range whistle. I say this never having played any high-end whistles and cannot not make that comparision. I hope this helps anyone who has been on the fence about trying the Syn.
Best Wishes,
