Well, as luck would have it the two CDs I ordered arrived today just in time for me burfday. And splendid they are indeed. I ordered them direct from Mr Duignan’s website.
“Ancient Rite” and “Lumina”. The former is the more ‘traditional’ of the two, with some splendid whistliing, low whistling, and piping.
The latter, however, is described as “A six part musical suite written for low whistles” and is inspired by the “magnificent Harry Clarke stained-glass windows in Diseart Chapel, Dingle, Co.Kerry”. It’s wonderful. Hard to describe, sort of Celtic/Irish/Medieval music, I love it. Just the kind of music I’d play if I had the talent. That doesn’t mean it’s “New-agey” stuff, far from it. As I said, hard to describe, but wonderful stuff.
There are some sample clips on the website http://www.duigo.com/ but I don’t think they do enough justice, certainly not for the Lumina album.
Now why did I not get myself a good birthday present for myself?
Today is my birthday and instead of spending my hard earned cash on something wonderful I spent a bundle on new brakes and rotors for my right-hand drive work Jeep
Of course, I guess working brakes are a good thing to help insure the next birthday
Duignan is the reason I play whistles. Last year I emailed him asking when he was coming out with a new CD. He told me he was working on this one, but I didn’t know it was done. Big news indeed!!
That makes my day, Amar. Thanks for telling me. And the ripples of goodness continue, starting from that night in Dingle in 1998 when I first heard him play his magic.
blackhawk, I ordered both albums after reading this (and going to his site):

Eoin Duignan’s Dance of the Gypsy Queen. That one tune is why I play today.
Since your nice to me, em, I’ll be nice to you and just remind you that peoples’ opinions about music may differ.
No need to offer my opinion here, of course. I did that once and blackhawk got really mad at me. Oh, 'hawkie, you remember those carefree days of youth?
