My B flat gen is really an A. God help me.

I was going through the batch of whistles I just got to check to see which ones I wanted to make semi-tunable by making the fipple loose. I pulled out my mom’s tuner and started blowing. My F and G generations were both a few miniscule degrees sharp, so I went ahead and took the heads off. however, I checked the same thing on my B flat generation and it again appeared a minor few degrees sharp. However, It happened to be registering just a few degrees sharp of an A. I checked all the way up the scale, and it was quite definitely an A scale. I, thinking I was insane, checked with our piano. Still matched up with A scale.

I checked and rechecked everything and found nothing that might make the pitch half a step flat. After overcoming my denial, I am now quite happy. I might be the only person in the world to own a brass A generation for all I know.

Just an interesting story.

I have never really checked a Gen Bb against a tuner but I am curious: How close to A can you get a regular Gen by pulling the head out quite a bit? How out of tune with itself would it be in this position?
