my B and A sound off........why?

On my JF sweetone, my tuner tells me when I play an A it gives me a G and when I play a B it gives me an A.
I have checked if I am not blowing too hard but on my other whistle (dixon hi D) I don’t have this problem.
Has anyone suggestions what could cause this problem and what I can try to solve it.

This might be a dumb question, but is it a “C” whistle?
If not, do the notes in question really sound that bad? as in - “do re me fa ouch whatthe ti do”? Then the tuner might be right.
If not, then check the tuner. Maybe it is set to “guitar” and just guessing at which string your tuning. Or it needs new batteries.
or maybe not.

no it is an high d and since on other whistles and flutes the tuner does OK it is not the tuner I think.
so the B does according to the tuner sound like an A and the A does sound like a sharpish G…so the notes are according to the tuner on the lower side than they should be.
any way I can fix that?

Clarke changed their casting of the Sweetone whistlehead a few months ago, and it took me a little while to discover that a change had been made. I’ve since worked out a method to adjust for the difference, but it sounds as though your whistle was one of the ones that went out before I discovered the transition.

I got one a few months back with the head not pushed in enough. Very nearly a Db whistle till I pushed it in.

But seriously, if your tuner has a sound function, try using it instead of the lights/indicator and pitch-match it with your whistle. Tuning problems will reveal themselves as an unpleasant wavering sound. You can also find out if the problem can be solved through breath control, of if a tweak is in order.

Plus, it makes a cool drone for those who can’t afford a full set of pipes! :smiley:

have tried meanwhile to push the fipple tighter onto the body with no avail, the stupid thing is already jammed on TIGHT enough.
