Musical Turtles?

So everytime I play my whistle on deck, turtles come! It is very sweet. Now my kiddos got caught a baby turtle recently and stuck him in a tank. He mostly hides under his branch but he comes out too when I play my whistle! I wouldn’t have thought their hearing was terribly good being reptiles, but it is official they know something is up because they all seem to like it or maybe they all come to protest. Perhaps they are Irish turtles?! A manatee came today as well. My daughter tells me I have an audience now!

Manatees hear Irish music and they think Guinness. It happens all the time.

Our cats run for cover if I play a high D whistle. Our pet turkey, however, perks up and has that “mating” look in here eye and starts strutting around. We live next to a nature preserve and the only animals that come up for a look are the hikers and mountain bikers…but I don’t think it has anything to do with mating.

There is music in the ocean. The water folk know. We humans just fail to listen very closely. Water in my ears tends to do that.

That is so nice! The only wild beasts that respond to my whistling here are groundhogs. And they seem largely aggrivated by it.

Feadoggie

When I’m sitting here at the computer and playing a whistle, my cat (named Dublin) will gently paw at my arm to let me know he wants on my lap, jumps up, lies in my lap and starts licking and rubbing my hands as I’m playing. He loves hearing the whistle, except the Chieftain which is too loud for him.

He also loves water, and as a nightly routine when I use my water pick, he’s on the sink counter, leaning over with his head next to my hand, licking the water as it drips from my hand. When he thinks it’s bedtime, he’ll look at me, start meowing and walking towards my bathroom as if saying, “OK, it’s water pic time…get with it!”

What a cat.
