I KNOW this has been discussed before, but it’s been awhile for me and I don’t see where there is a search feature (if there is, sorry, Im not seeing it).

There is software out there that lets you slow down a tune without changing the pitch - can someone let me know what it is?

Instead of downloading something new, you
could use the built in playback speed controls
in Windows Media Player or Quicktime.

Also, there is a search feature. It’s the link at the
top of the C&F screen (just under the ad to the right)

Regular old Windows Media Player has a feature that will let you slow down as much as half speed. Just click on View at the top and then “play speed.” The rest is self-evident.

But sometimes you want to slow down to 25% or even less to catch complex details. And specialized features like waveform display and markers can be very helpful.

OTOH, what did we do when all we had were half-speed tape recorders? Or, heaven forbid, just our ears? :laughing:

Would running very fast whilst listening to a tune work due to relativity?

Audacity allows you to change speed or change pitch as well as being a full multi track recording platform, and its free:

Everyone should have Audacity. It can be handy for lots
of random things that you don’t necessarily want a bigger
program for. You never know when you might need it.

The trick is you must make sure to do a “select all” before
you can do the speed change.

The sound quality is not incredible after a slow down for
various technical reasons. If you find you want better
slowed down sound quality after trying audacity or WMP
slowdowns, you may have to try one of the commercial
programs.

All the suggestions above are good ones. I’ll add another just for variety. SlowGold and SlowBlast from Worldwide Woodshed. These are provided as add-ons to programs like Band-In-A-Box but can be purchased separately as well. Demo downloads are available.

Hi,

There are two interesting plugins for winamp that let you slow down a tune (or speed up) down to around 45%. They let you modify the pitch also, but seperately.

This second one is by the guy who wrote
the Amazing Slow Downer. I used to use it,
but the plugin system in WinAmp required
too much clickery to turn things on and off.
But it did work well enough.
