Music Reading in Flute music

ah yes, we’ve been know to suck in many a wayward Boehm player

The vast majority of transverse flute players actually play keyless flutes of bamboo with a simple fingering system as on “Irish whistles”. This majority is found in the Far East, South Asia and South America (?) and of course in ex patriate and bambooflutephiles pockets elsewhere.

Well , Denny , you could never be accused of talking them into it ..

Daisy , how are you getting on with the flute after 4 years ? is it making any sense yet ? have you got loads of tunes ?
any recommendations for Youtube viewing of great flute tunes ?

( notice at the corner of the above photo , “The Fisherman’s Friend” , great for clearing the airways , helping to get that clear bell tone , so beloved of flute players)

 good, been accused of most everything else at one time or an other

Lilias Kinsman-Blake is also a very fine player of traditional music on the Boehm system flute. She is Scots from the Borders, not Irish, so her repertoire is correspondingly Scots. She produces lovely warm tone not unlike the wooden flute. Her flute actually has a wooden head joint which she says helps her get the tone she is aiming for. I think some of the tone also comes from playing a lot in the first octave, where players of classical music on Boehm system flutes seem to play a lot in the second and third octave.
