Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh

Anyone hear the whistle track on Muireann’s new album?
What whistle does she play, anyone know?

Check it out

I have been trying to find out more about Muireen (I even asked on this board, but no response). She plays low whistle on "“Inis Oirr” on the Barry Philips CD “Cello” (great one available at www.gourd.com). It was the first time I’d ever heard a low whistle and it really enchanted me. Enough for me to try to learn to play this thing.
I will definitely order her CD. I didn’t know she was with Danu.
Thanks, Doug

Me too-the first I heard the first low whistle that clicked and I thought, wow, so that’s what they sound like!-was on Barry’s “Cello” album too-Muireann really puts some feeling into it, and it’s one of my favorite tracks today for low whistles. The whistle was a Colin Goldie non-tunable Low D, that Cillian O’Briain had tweaked with some masking tape. Beautiful sound to it! And I was surprised how well the two went together-the cello and the low whistle.

Do a search on Muireann and you will find some info here on the board. I haven’t heard any of the new album yet, but I’ll take a listen shortly.

It says this on the bottom of the new cd page: Muireann plays a Martin Doyle flute and Cillian Ó Briain whistle.

Which track does she play low whistle on?

And, actually, the link above needed the slashes put in to work:

PSST: I just saw this on her website:

An interview with Muireann will be broadcast on Áine Hensey’s show
“The Late Session” on RTÉ Radio 1, Sunday May 7th at 10pm

Check out the Danu CD titled “Up in the Air”. It’s actually a collection of solos by the individual members of the band. Muireen has an absolutely kick butt reel set on there: Seán sa Cheo/John Dohertys/The Highland Man Kissed His Granny. OMG! I knew she had a beautiful singing voice, but had no idea she could play whistle like that!!

BTW. Danu was in concert here about a month or so ago. If you ever get the chance to see them live, DO IT!!
